U.S. Election video mashups

“Ever year, by law and by custom we meet here to threaten the world…”

Rev:USA is a project regenerating the spirit of Coldcut’s original Re:volution track. The remix project is well underway and more pertinent than ever with only a few weeks before the big election. Hosting video mashups and activist video bootlegs satirising and commenting on the U.S. Election circus, the website features amongst uploaded videos a guitar-wielding John Kerry, and UK cult comedian Chris Morris’ video sequel to Bushwacked. The project was conceived by NomIg and Coldcut, the latter kindly provide a bumper 250M AV archive loops package to get you started, and ready to submit your work.

From: Media trips:
“Revolution:USA is an online, multimedia political art project … a way to gather together artists around the world who have something to say about the state of American politics. It is intended as a form of catalyst for both audiovisual art and the development of public awareness surrounding politics and their effect on our lives.”

From the Website:
“Revolution : USA is an online, multimedia political art project parented by Coldcut and NomIg. (www.nomig.net) a peerless Montreal audiovisual duo fit to challenge even their UK partners in crime and hosted by the Society for Arts & Technology (SAT) in Montreal. Their mandate is simple: to incite the public to assemble their own protest-ant magic from Coldcut’s vast multimedia archive, including content uploaded by public contributors. The site also contains free audio loops and tracks created by Coldcut, which are available for use in would-be artist mixes. The aim is to build a digital A/V library replete with work that unearths the veiled wasteland of US politics, in order to invoke social change, and to create a new forum for meaningful artistic interactivity.

The basic premise is simple: remix the original activist anthem Re:volution with an American spin and invite the audience to do so as well. Using samples of the last 40 years of American presidents and media figures, we will create an online Archive of Political Corruption and Scandals. This site features an interactive timeline of major US political scandals and corruption with an integrated database containing: pertinent video clips and samples for download and streaming; pictures; a textual description of each event and offsite links for further research. This content is served from Coldcut’s archive of clips as well as uploaded from users of the site. The site also contains audio loops and tracks created by Coldcut which are available for download. In essence this will is a digital library de[t/r]ailing the blatant corruption of the US political landscape in order to evoke social change through audience participation. The concept of this site is also a new form of documentary filmmaking. By offering audiovisual content in such a raw and concise form it is possible for the user to essentially create their own documentary experience by simply following the links and watching the materials in the order they choose, without the bias and editing decisions of the filmmaker.”
